Next week the cooking will commence for feasts in many households.
As you prepare be sure to follow these tips to make sure you and yours have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
T – Thaw your turkey in the refrigerator below 40 degrees. It’s not a good idea to thaw your turkey on the counter.
U- Use caution when frying your bird and do not under any circumstances do the frying indoors. This includes the garage – outdoors for frying turkeys is the way to go.
R- Remember to clean the surfaces that food being prepared is touching frequently. Have spray or wipes on hand that kill germs and wipe the countertops down in between each use.
K- Keep the kids and pets away from hot surfaces. There’s a lot going on when cooking a big meal and it’s easy for little hands or paws to get burned. Ask a family member or guest to keep them entertained while you cook.
E- Everyone wants to have the perfect bird but, even if it’s a little overcooked that’s better than undercooked! Raw turkey is never what anyone wants on the menu. Make sure the inner temperature of Tom Turkey reaches 165 degrees.
Y- Your smoke detectors need to be fully functional. If you didn’t just test them when we rolled our clocks back be sure to do it before you start cooking for the holiday.
